Decorating

Beyond the Wall isn’t just a gardening project, we do lots more besides learning horticulture and gardening skills. Cooking and ICT as well as well as music and art, all feature on our timetable.

The spaces that we use to do some of these activities were starting to look a little tired, so were in need of a lick of paint. With a week of frost and cold forecast, it was apparent that it would not be possible to be working outside doing some of the jobs that were planned, so attention was turned to working inside, decorating.

With very kind donation of paint and the hours volunteered by Dave and Philip, staff were able to work alongside volunteers to decorate the kitchen, ICT suite, toilet first aid room and office in around a week!

With a few new fixtures added the rooms were given a fresh new look and have already been a pleasure for everyone to work in.

We are now looking ahead, inspired by what we have decorated already, and have three painting projects ahead of us this year. The catering kitchen needs a revamp, the apple store needs refreshing and we would like to transform the summer house into a fresh and bright space where people can chill, chat and enjoy the summer away from the midday sun.

If you would like to make a donation, have paint and brushes, or would like to volunteer to lend a hand in making our plans a reality please be in touch, by phone or email.

Blossom Day

The walled garden will be open to the public on a very special day ahead of its summer opening to the public. Blossom Day is set to be a family day of fun, music and entertainment, with stalls, raffles as well as morris and maypole dancing. It will also be a great opportunity to see the progress made in restoration of the double herbaceous border and to meet everyone involved in transforming the garden in recent months.

Blossom day is on Saturday 20th may, 12-4pm, we look forward to welcoming you, your family and friends into the garden for what looks set to be our second fun packed event of 2017.

2017 open days and events

Beyond the Wall are delighted to announce our calendar of events for 2017. With Wassail already having been a great success, Blossom day looks to be great fun too.

With the garden also being open through the summer, we are excited to be welcoming members of the public to see progress, as we restore and replant the double herbaceous border and complete many of the other projects that will take the garden from strength to strength.

Remember, that when visiting, produce and plants from the garden are on sale, so why not take a bit of the garden home with you after staying a while to enjoy the atmosphere, tea and cake, prepared and served by our clients.

Wassail

Beyond the Wall has started 2017 with its first open event; Wassail!

This event brought together members of our wider community to celebrate the start to the year, banish evil spirits and welcome in a productive and fruitful growing season to the orchard.

With live music and homemade chilli accompanying mulled cider the event also raised money for this year’s two main gardening projects, the restoration of the double herbaceous border and the planting of a new rose border.

A big thank you to all those who attended. Watch this space for news on other events and openings that we are planning for 2017.
