Month: November 2022

Big Changes

The walled garden is always evolving, it is one of the many joys that the garden brings, never being the same from one month to the next. November has brought about the start of another big change which we are all very excited about. The kitchen garden at the rear of the site has been comprised of three large growing beds, these beds have been the base for the allotment grow beds that have featured over the last couple of years, and are about to undergo a massive makeover.

In mid November a lorry arrived loaded with sleepers, in order that we can start to develop the space to become far more accessible and have year round interest as we start to build a series of raised beds that will be home to vegetables and fruit in the coming years. A pergola has also arrived and work has started, in order that over the winter the space is rearranged  and set out in readiness for our seeds to be planted in the spring. Keep an eye on our socials for updates as we progress through this project.

In the glasshouses there are changes too, the large tropical bed grew wonderfully this year, however some plants are getting mature and choking the space, so we have started a process of removing and dividing them, resulting plant material is allowing us to replant the Fernery Glasshouse with lush tropical plants, to add atmosphere and interest to the space. It took a week to replant and dress the beds, which look a little sparse at the moment, but come spring should grow into a tropical backdrop to hopefully wow visitors.
